Our Ministry in Papua New Guinea

In 1914 the first Liebenzell missionaries landed on Manus Island, Admiralty group. This work has than expanded to the Sepik province in northern New Guinea and to the island of New Britain. In this region, Liebenzell has in the past entered an agreement of joint venture with the South Sea Evangelical Mission, Australia.

In close co-operation with the national workers and Australian and New Zealand personnel, our missionaries in the past have been engaged in all phases of this outreach.

On Manus, training of church leaders and church workers is the prevailing need.

In the Sepik River area, we have maintained, besides our primary thrust of evangelism and church planting, Bible schools and medical clinics to serve the people. Today there is a national church, the South Sea Evangelical Church (SSEC), under which all the churches in the region are united. Our missionaries have left this area and are now working in other places, such as Mount Hagen and in the southern area of New Guinea.

In New Britain, the settlers, coming from many provinces of PNG, have been reached through tent ministry and until today are being descipled through short-term follow-up courses.

New Guinea need workers for grass-root evangelism as well as teachers to prepare and equip nationals.

More information will soon be added to this page. Please be patient.
